«Alwan» jacket

The story of the piece

«Alwan» — colours — is an ivory silk jacket with a clean cut: mandarin collar, concealed closure, two patch pockets. All the colour lives on the sleeves, where the embroidery takes the geometries of tatreez and opens them up to red, blue, green and gold. Inside there is a quilted red lining, seen only when the jacket is open: the same red that comes back in the embroidery. Ten pieces, made in the Rome atelier and ready for delivery.

The embroidery

Every shape is hand-cut from fabric and applied onto the silk, thread after thread: diamonds, waves and a stylised tree climbing up the forearm. It is tatreez taken out of its grid — same signs, same reading handed down from mother to daughter, at a different scale.
